GPA 3.87

21st Jan - Submitted application
24th Jan - Kira interview
1st Feb - Skype interview
2nd Feb - Admission notification via email

The final interview was very informal, just needed to prepare for the general behavioural questions. I felt that I connected well with the interviewer which made the interview very smooth. Let me know if there is any other question you would like to ask and I will be more than happy to help.
Wow what a thrilling 10days admit journey, post submission..... Wonderful

Hey guys. I am an Indian candidate and have a investment banking profile with more than 6 years of experience so far. Should I apply to Alberta or not. I have already applied to Rotman and Schulich but I am afraid I might be a tad late (applied in round 3). I have heard that Alberta rejected a candidate last year because he was an international student with investment banking as target area. Edmonton is not very strong on this. And investment banking or asset management jobs ask for Canadian experience. So they rejected his application.

Hi Friends. I applied for Alberta admissions on 8th Feb, and I have received invitation for video interview today. I am also applying for Haskayne, U of Calgary.

I have few questions for those who had already attended video interview.

What is the response time for each of the video interview questions? Also, What is the word count for written essay?

Hi,

I can't say for sure whether you will or will not accepted but every applicant is different and just because someone didn't get accepted last year doesn't mean you won't get accepted this year. There are many factors that affect the admission teams decision. Your best bet would be to do the pre-application questionaire and the admissions team will be able to give you some advice on your application. My advice is you definitely won't be accepted if you don't apply so if the Alberta program appeals to you then I would apply.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Everyone,

Sam here. Got the invite for the second interview yesterday.

Can anyone provide clues as to the structure of the interview? What kind of questions should I expect to answer?

Also, seems everyone is getting about $6,000 in scholarship? Anyone gotten scholarship above this amount?

Hi Sam,

The second interview is a pretty standard interview. I would just suggest preparing as you would for a job interview. There will be some typical questions like why the U of A and why the MBA, some personal questions to get to know you and some behaviour type questions. Don't worry about being technical.

I can't speak to the scholarship question but hopefully someone has an answer for you.

Good luck!

Hello, Chelsea

Thanks for your responding and providing tips about the structure of the second interview. This would definitely help me in preparing for it.

I assume you are already one year into your study at the Alberta Business School. How has it been so far? What's your area of speciality? - I hope you don't mind me probing. I am just trying to get a first-hand account of the learning environment at UAlberta.

Yes I am just completing my first year right now - I am bit unusual because I am a fast track student (Bachelor of Commerce from a North American Institution) So my first year is also my last year. It has been great so far. Very busy but really good overall I am going to be sad for it to be over. I didn't specialize but I did follow the Real Estate Stream.

Any other questions just let me know!

Hello, Chelsea

Thanks for indulging my curiosity. It's really great having the opportunity to engage with someone presently enrolled in the program.

I had the second interview with Chris via Skype yesterday. I think it went well enough. The tips you provided were more than helpful. Thank you very much!

I do have more than a few more questions, in fact :-D :

    1. How much are field trips (visits to companies) incorporated into the curriculum?
    2. Are digital tools integrated into the classroom experience?
    3. What's the gender/racial diversity of your class like?
    4. How tight are class schedules? Monday to Friday? 9 to 5?
    5. Are there planned social/networking activities as part of the class program?
    6. Would you say that the MBA program is satisfying the expectations that you had going in? How has your understanding of and approaching to solving business problems been altered as a result of the MBA program? On the whole, would you consider the Alberta MBA program value for time and money?

If you don't mind, I would love the opportunity to engage with you one-on-one. Maybe we could have a chat over Skype when you have some time.

Warm regards,
Sam

I recently got to know that alberta gives almost 7000 word limits for a reference letter while mostly reference letters are under 500 words. So is it true that alberta needs longer reference letters ??

I applied on 17th Feb. Due to late reference letter submission from one of my referee, the 1St round interview call was delayed by 10 days. I got the call for the 1St video interview on 8th March and that for the 2nd round interview on 17th March.

I cannot reveal the details of the interview, but would say that Be Yourself and Be Aware of Who you are and What you beleive in. It's basically You. All the question asked in the interview will be somehow connected with your Past, Present and Future. Do not try to impress them with something that is not you.

It is your story that makes you Unique and not what they want to hear from you.

Best of Luck
