Topic : Sentence Correction
Sub Topic : Parallelism
1. Should implies moral obligation, and usually options which have should are almost never right.
2. One common thing that the GMAT does is make BLIND parallelisms.
3. In GMAT a list with more than one item MUST be connected with AND. ex : If the list has 2 items - it will be X and Y( X and Y need to be parallel) ,
for 3 items it needs to be X,Y and Z.
2 sentences can be connected with an AND or BUT or For but not 3 sentences.ex : I love Paris and i love New york but i hate Berlin is not correct.
It could be I love Paris and I love NewYork ;i hate Berlin.
4. The only rule you need to know about ; is that it needs to have TWO COMPLETE SENTENCES on either side
5. Note that when we connect two things by AND, it means that they are independent of each other. However, when we use COMMA, ING we mean
that the second part is a consequence of the first part
Example : The traffic was out of control and i got late to work. Though this is a grammatically correct sentence, the meaning isn’t logical.
Correct sentence: The traffic was out of control, gettING me late to work.
