While I was at Booth, I had a classmate that came from the medical profession. After he had spent several years becoming a doctor, he became interested in how business could help him expand his impact beyond his education and experience in medicine. Although this is less common, I believe you have considerable strengths as a candidate.
If you haven't taken any math-based curriculum (i.e. stats, calc) as part of your previous studies , I suggest that you take a quant course that will give you a transcript. One option is Berkeley Extension's Math for Management. A strong GRE coupled with an A from a structured course intended to prep for management will provide evidence that you can handle the quantitative workload.
Other than academics, I suggest ensuring your CV is 'business friendly.' Applicants coming from less traditional backgrounds often have jargon that is more industry specific. Spend some time making sure your CV and stories are in layman's terms. Lastly, I encourage you to think deeply about your future career aspirations and be specific on what you want to accomplish by combining your medical and (future) business experiences. Work Experience: ~65 months of full-time work experience by matriculation.
4.5 years of experience in private equity at a US$1bn + fund in LATAM (1 year) then left to co-manage a small VC fund (spent 1.2 years there; US$5mm AUM) in Mexico. Once that fund was fully invested left to join a starting PE fund worked for 2.5 years there (4 promotions across work history). Recently joined a energy start-up in the US to gain more international experience prior to my MBA.
Post MBA Goals: Start my own ed-tech company or work at a ed-tech startup (think Coursera)
Strong LOR (known former alumni) and Essays, also have support letters from alumni and current students
Extracurriculars
co-captain of Private equity fund football team
Spend 20 hours a year cleaning rivers and planting trees (not much free time in private equity)
in college spent over 300 hours helping a small organization focused on improving the quality of life in low income rural towns in Mexico (roughly spent 20 hours a month)
