It is unlikely that he is from the first round because the deadline for accepting the offer and paying the deposit was on Dec 15th...

The number of admits must have increased as some1 from R1 waitlist would be admitted. The admission office must have made up its mind on someone after completing R2 interviews. I am not sure about this but this is my view... Keeping my fingers crossed to be a part of this amazing cohort.

Someone who got admitted in R1 also told me she had a 2nd and final interview before the decision.
Joe, was it your case? Did you have the notification for this 2nd interview long before the final decision date?

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean precisely. My understanding is a current Fellow got an email from Admission Office. This letter asked this Fellow to schedule a conference call with director of Admission. This conference call must be done before final admission.

Am I correct ?

This was the process they used when Steven sacca was doing admissions , I expected this to be discontinued and streamlined with standard admissions
