"the rope" is singular therefore were should be "was"
(B) He disapproves of you insisting that the rope of pearls were purposely misplaced.-wrong
"the rope"is singular" therefore were should be "was"

the correct idiom would be to say "on purpose"
ex: I stole purposely- wrong!
I stole on purpose-correct
