There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
On clear admit, a lot of people (I am guessing from the US, including someone who applied on Sep 15, the deadline date) already got the invite. We probably have to wait longer.
ArajDalal, if the adcoms are sending waitlists out, I am going to make the dangerous assumption that not hearing to this point is a good thing, ie: that you are more likely to get an interview invite and not a waitlist invite. But I could be 100% wrong, as this is simply a guess

To quantify for people not on clear admit, it’s about 5 or so people that have received invites to interview for the FT program, and they just started updating their status yesterday (oct 7).

So would you think that if I applied previous to the Sept 15 deadline (I applied on September 5th), I would get either waitlisted or denied? Given that a guy that applied right at the deadline already received an invite and NYU works with a rolling process?
I think NYU groups all candidates by location, sometimes pooling people from other rounds as well. Fo example, Indians, inrrespective of R1 and R2, typically hear back on interview invites/ rejection/ WL by late November/ early December only
