does anyone know if fuqua gives away 70% of the international students scholarship by round 1 or not?
I doubt this is the case... because of how financial aid works. Also, I doubt anyone could confirm/deny this information, especially in international vs domestic granularity. You have to look at the School and what is in their best interest - is it really in their best interest to give away all the scholarships in R1? (play this out - they give out most of their aid for International Applicants in R1. That means almost everyone is going to accept the scholarship $$ because that would be stupid to pass it up. Now, those dollars are locked and assigned and Fuqua can only give 30% out in R2 (potentially missing some great applicants).
Then in R2 a bunch of people apply to M7’s and HBS or maybe INSEAD. People wait for the R2 results which come out in March and April and in mid-April they pay deposits for M7 and notify Fuqua that they don’t intend to matriculate. This now puts a ton of cash back into the pot of Fuqua for R3 and now they are going to be giving scholarships to everyone in R3 (because the scholarships have to be given away; you can’t "save" them). Which everyone knows how "abundant" scholarships are in R3 and so this makes me highly doubt they would do something like this.
If anyone wants to learn more about how scholarships work - check this video out; we interviewed a Haas and Booth former AdCom for it:
