Profile for Evaluation
My personal and professional trajectory is all about taking the road less travelled. I am from Dehradun, studied PCM (ICSE board), scored 93% in 10th and 70% in 12th, and found out in 12th that I am not the engineering-material student that everyone assumes you to be in a small town.
I was a student with a creative edge and journalism abilities. By then, it was too late to do better in 12th, so I joined a Tier-2 college (8.5 CGPA) and later Xavier’s Institute of Communication (Grade A) for my postgraduate diploma in advertising.
Since then, I have been a copywriter in advertising agencies. I have worked with Netflix, Spotify, and Uber to deliver successful campaigns and got awarded a Blue Elephant for my work with Netflix. It has been 5+ years, and currently I am working at an advertising start-up, building it from 0 to 1 as a Creative Group Head, leading a team of 5 people and working on campaigns with budgets as high as ₹1 crore to deliver maximum reach, views, and impact.
As much as I love advertising, I know that the real work happens at the grassroots. With my creative abilities and the marketing skills that I can learn at ISB, I believe I can deliver work that creates real impact and puts Indian brands on the map.
It’s the mindset of growth that keeps me going, learning tennis at 26 years of age and playing it competitively, participating in marathons and making my entire family do it too, and leading trekking groups at 16,000 ft through the road less travelled.
My concern is my 70% in Class 12. While I’ve performed well academically otherwise (93% in Class 10, 8.5 CGPA, Grade A at XIC), I’m worried about how much this will affect my ISB application. As a non-engineering applicant, I’m targeting a GMAT Focus score of around 695 to strengthen my profile.
I’d really appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile, especially the impact of my Class 12 score.

Your 70% in Class 12 is a weakness, but I would not consider it a deal-breaker for ISB, especially given how much stronger your academic performance has been since then.Your 93% in Class 10, 8.5 CGPA, Grade A at XIC, and the overall upward academic trajectory help show that the Class 12 score was not representative of your ability.
Your biggest strength is your differentiated career story—advertising, work with brands like Netflix/Spotify/Uber, an award-winning campaign, and now leading a team at a startup.
A 695 GMAT Focus would be a good score and should help address the academic concern, but the quality of your essays will matter just as much.
For ISB, focus on showing leadership, measurable impact, creativity, and why you now need business skills to move from creating campaigns to building brands and businesses.
Your extracurriculars also add personality, so use them naturally rather than trying to list everything.
Overall, I would definitely apply to ISB; the profile has enough differentiation that I would not let the 70% in Class 12 discourage you.
