It is, but you have to make sure that they don't have to think alot for answering your question. The interview should end on good note.

SkillUnit There is generally a different approach to how you interview with alumni vs. adcom officials. With alumni, you try to establish commonalities between them and yourself. You may make them reflect on their own experiences to touch a friendly nerve. With the adcom officials, you show research and genuine interest in the design of the program/curriculum, positioning of the program in rankings, etc. You will find some more proven strategies here.
