my husband is a R3 applicant and was just waitlisted yesterday on the decision date. We have a few acceptances, but Duke was one of our two top choices (waitlisted at our other top choice too). How are the chances for WLer's?? This is agony beliving that we are going to have to pick up and move last minute....and I need to find a new job and all since we will be down to just 1 salary..... Any news on when status updates will be out? and do they just say " you are still on the WL, we will let you know"...?

From now on they pick on the waitlist pool subject to the acceptance of the admitted students. There is no focal date except May 20 which is the deposit deadline. At that point they will have a clear picture on class composition. Previous blog show they still pick student all through June and July. On the probabilities...it is hard to say. To many factors come into play to determine chances but from what we have seen.... the wailtist pool must be huge and there is no way of knowing how many available slots remain. The situation is pretty frustrating. We have to sit tight and wait this thing out...there is not much that can be done.

Submitted this on Friday but confirmed it just today: I've transferred my application from the WL of Daytime program to Cross Continent. I was lucky enough to 1. be in a company that I really wanted to stay at and 2. convince my company that I could be remain a valuable team member despite the significant time requirements of this program.

I'm super excited about this program and hope to be admitted within a couple of weeks.

Good luck to everyone still waiting around on the Daytime WL.

The deposit deadline is May 20th and the acceptance letter says that scholarship letters will be sent out approximately two weeks from May 9th. Anyone know if we will hear about scholarship money before the May 20th deadline?

I was a R2 WL and was told 48 hours to deposit (so tomorrow). Here goes draining my paltry savings account.....as if the whole application process hasn't cost enough!

@swaise, I asked about scholarships and was told there is still scholarship money being distributed. Letters will go into the mail next week apparently. Surprised me because it's so late in the process.

Good luck fellow waitlisters! Hope to see you at orientation!

Congrats to all the WL-Admits!!!

I was under the impression that EA/R1 WLers are prioritized over R2/R3 WLers. However, it looks like mvanbusk and MBwAit broke that rule, so there is hope for me yet. I hope to join the club soon so I would really appreciate it if the WL-Admits shared, whether via PM or on here, what they did while waiting for the decision.

yes. congrats to mvanbusk and MBwAit! I'm a round 1 WL'er and have been racking my nerves for so long about this. MBwAit already mentioned the updates he gave. mvanbusk-do you mind sharing your updates? PM me or post on the thread.

Good luck to everyone.

I sent a few things while I was waiting:

1) an additional letter of recommendation from a colleague with an MBA (rare in my field)
2) an academic update from two classes I'm taking in preparation for graduate school (my final grades wouldn't be released before the R3 decision date, so I asked the Professors to write a short email about my grade thus far)
3) an email update regarding the coursework I'd taken on, an innovation award I'd received at work, and further actions I'd taken to learn about Fuqua (met with alums in my city)

I tried space them out in timing, not have all of them come from me, and with each one, emphasized Fuqua was my top choice.

mvanbusk, thanks for the reply. Would you wait to see the scholarship letter before paying the deposit? If the letters go out next week, we may not get it in the mail by the 20th. Although, we should be able to call and ask them to look up the scholarship information. What do you think?

Called the admissions office now. Seems the last batch of WL movement took place on 9th May. She has no idea when the next wave is gonna hit.
This wait is killing me..

If you are admitted off the waitlist, you will receive a phone call, which is basically along the lines of "are you 100% certain you would attend Duke if given the opportunity." When you say "YES!" (which you should do if that is the case), you will then be told you have 48 hours to send your deposit.

It is very obvious that Duke is managing their yield via waitlist. I know from a person there that their rankings have been hindered by lower yield compared to peer schools, which they are actively trying to increase. They get excellent marks on everything else, but yield is one place where they have lagged a bit, but are now starting to pick up.

If for any reason you gave the notion that Duke was not your top choice, like I somewhat did on my original application, you were most likely waitlisted. Example: my application was catered to finance, but I also applied to Booth (interviewed, but denied). Fuqua obviously inferred that Booth would most likely be my top choice (there were other factors I failed to mention, which is what I included in my updates) and therefore, waitlisted me. If you're serious about Fuqua, tell them straight up that you will go in the event you are admitted...yield is a huge thing in the rankings criteria, and they definitely take that into account.

Also, no WL movement happened on the 9th, it was on the 10th. I know this for a fact.

Just another point. If you are WLed, you don't have the luxury of a nice 2 week - 1 month period for your deposit. They want you right there to commit. That's the yield game.

Also, for those still WLed, I've noticed everyone who has received admission off the WL has gone about the waiting period more aggressively than most not admitted. Fuqua likes to know the candidate wants to be there, so don't hold back. Take the initiative, and send them updates. I don't think there is a limit. Also, re-visit the school. Schedule meetings with professors or students - I even met with admissions for 10 minutes (although they were pretty rude). Either way, I think being more aggressive helps in Duke's case.

I know, for a fact, that Duke is looking to boost yield numbers. I've heard this from a number of credible sources, and not just students.

Obviously, the make-up of the class is very important, but they are 100% concerned with yield. Why do you think the WL is so big this year - very similar to that other school you're talking about.

It's 100% yield management, for sure.
