Well I am not sure why the calls havent gone out yet but I want to apply to R2 and I asked if I will need to come to NY for interview in case I am selected. I was told that Stern hold interviews in March for countries like India & China and slots may get filled up fast from R1. So, in such cases R2 candidate maybe at sort of a disadvantage. So, I assume that they do offsite interviews only once a year.

Even I have heard the same. I suggest you should apply as early as possible for round 2.
