C20
Actually, I do have a lot of personal decorations -- I am a female combat veteran, who commanded 120 Soldiers in Iraq. That's not my only acheivement in 8 years of active duty service since graduating from Georgetown ROTC. I received National and University awards while in college. I am pursuing my degree so that afterwards I can teach cadets at USMA-West Point. However, maybe that's narrow of me...seeing as how my life should be judged based on my mediocre GMAT equivilant of 560. Pardon me that I had such lofty expectations to have actually believed that these universities were looking for a 'total-scholar'.
I don't mean to sound so caustic...however, the GMAT comments seem a bit superficial.
Trust me, when they say they are looking for a total-scholar, they are not talking about GMAT, and mean everything other than that. they start looking for the total scholar in you only when you meet their GRE/GMAt cut-off. Thats the hidden statement and every body who is applying to business school knows that. A top 30 B-school told me after i applied that my GMAT is not as good as my peers from my country. I was eventually dinged.
They just want you to apply, thats why they give this holistic look whatever crap. When they reject you it just adds to their selectivity and helps their ranking.
And as a thumb rule, apply if you are within the school's 80% GMAT range. Also if they admit someone with a low GMAT score, their average GMAT goes down and eventually their ranking goes down.
The schools are superficial, not the people who replied to the post. Trust me, they are just trying to help.
