Can any current students or applicants who have already gone up to interview on campus shed some light on what they go over in the interview/who interviews you and how I should prepare? I have my visit coming up and want to make sure I'm well prepared!

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

It's great to see so many current students contributing to this thread. I'm planning to apply to Tuck in the early round. I would be very much interested
to have an informal chat with current students; any insights you can share about life and activities at Tuck would be of great interest to me. Unfortunately
I noticed that the admission ambassadors forum on Tuck would open only by the end of September. If any of you are free next week or so please drop me a message.
Thank you for your time, really appreciate your support!.

Cheers
~N

You can PM me (or my T15 classmates) with specific questions. All the best.

General question about the essays. For the adversity/failure essay...I don't want to appear to be avoiding talking about my failures but. Would overcoming some external adversity work as opposed to some overt failure?

I am interviewing on the 3rd October. Beyond excited!

I'll be interviewing the 4th, are you planning on staying over the weekend? I was thinking about trying to explore the area a bit but don't know if I can afford to stretch my trip. Getting excited!

@tripsd, it's hard to say without knowing more about your idea but the question can be taken in multiple ways; it doesn't have to literally be a failure (though those are often the most compelling stories). An 'external adversity' does sound like it could b the same as a 'setback' so depending on the severity of it and the actual circumstances, that could work.

No, I am departing Hanover on the 4th so won't get much of a chance to explore unfortunately!

I interviewed last year. It's all the standard questions like "walk me through your resume", strengths/weaknesses, a time you failed, a time you led a team, etc.

Take a look at the ClearAdmit interview reports and you'll see the questions that people have been recently asked.

For walking through the resume, how much detail should I give? The exact dates and every bullet point on my resume?
Also what is the attire for the receptions for males and females?

Please don't do this; you will put your interviewer to sleep! This is one of the most difficult parts of the interview to do well (shameless plug: we cover this question thoroughly in our Interviewing Guide).

You need to touch on the most relevant highlights, starting from your first post-college job. Your whole career history should be covered efficiently - a big mistake we often see is people taking 5+ minutes to answer this question. That's way too much detail. Practice your resume overview narrative, it's not necessarily the most important part of the interview but it can set the tone and show the interviewer where you're coming from and why you need an MBA (don't memorize it though - an overrehearsed answer makes you sound like a robot and is almost as bad as being unprepared, they want to get a sense of the 'real you' and you cheat them of that if you come in to deliver a script).

Depends on the school and what you specifically mean - if interviewing, then a suit is pretty much always the way to go; if by "reception" you mean "info session" at an off-campus location then business casual is fine. If you're going to campus it doesn't hurt to dress up; see our post "How to 'do' a school visit" at the EssaySnark blahg.

You definitely don't want to give too much detail when you're asked to walk through your resume for two reasons: 1) you may be giving away stories that are good answers for other questions later on; 2) you're going to bore you interviewer if you start to ramble. I would target for a response of no longer than 2 min and follow Essaysnark's advice

Thank you for the advice, Essaysnark and Ward2012. I worried about being too vague but I will keep practicing. For the reception, I'm attending the Tuck reception which will be an off campus. I assume it is an information session then a chance to mingle with other applicants, faculty, current students and alumni.

Yes, that's what it will be.
