Doesn't D change the meaning of the sentence?
The original sentence says that people are unwilling to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak.
D changes the meaning to "are weak."

I struggled with this one but settled on e) because I thought d) changed the meaning.

Even I had same confusion for D....still went for D as E was too wordy

D ignores the "degree" to which the analytical skills are being tested and therefore changes the meaning of the stem.... E seems to be the best option. Although wordy, it gives a space to "recognize" the weakness of the analytical skills...Whats the OA??

(D) Many people, willing to admit that they lack computer skills or other technical skills, are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak

Is the construction given above parallel?
I find this better - (Wat say?)
"that they lack" ... "that they are weak"

Many people, willing to admit that they lack computer skills or other technical skills, are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak.

Ignore the underlined part and concentrate on the rest of the sentence. This is the one that makes most sense. The rest use improper comparisons.

Straight D! The other sentences are either very long (like E) or convey the wrong message by referring to the wrong subject.. like A

Straight D.

A,B and C commit of matching "Unlike" with something other than an analogue of "computer skills" or other "technical skills". One needs to compare like terms with like terms--in this case skills with skills.

E is simply awkward. The original statement does not talk about recognizing weakness but rather the degree off weakness.

D preserves original while maintaining grammatical correctness, all in a crisp, direct, unambiguous fashion.

Cheers,
Der alte Fritz.

Indeed, it does--your observation is right. However, the salient remains, Cosmas, as you said.

(A) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, there is a disinclination on the part of many people to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak.
{ "Like" must be used to compare nouns. For e.g:, Like Mary, Pam is pretty. The "beauty" of Mary and Pam is being compared. This answer option , which starts with "Unlike Computer schills or other technical skills", the first word after the comma should be a noun and should refer to something that needs to be compared with computer skills/technical skills. Hence this option is grammatically incorrect }

(B) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, which they admit they lack, many people are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak.
{ Apart from the "like" error highlighted above, this sentence contains an additional error. The usage of "which" mandates that it should "kiss" a noun For eg : I like the shirt, which you wore to work yesterday. "which" should refer to the noun that is immediately to the left of it. This answer option implies that
"Which" refers to technical skills. The meaning of the sentence has changed}

(C) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, analytical skills bring out a disinclination in many people to recognize that they are weak to a degree.
{ The "Like" error is rectified here. The construct, Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, analytical skills.....ensures that apples are being compared to apples. However, the meaning of the sentence has taken a turn for the worse. The usage "many people to recognize that they are weak to a degree" non-sensically implies that the many people realize that they are physically weak. In the original sentence, people realize that their analytical skills are weak }
(D) Many people, willing to admit that they lack computer skills or other technical skills, are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak. [simple and clear]
{ Short, Concise and Accurate. }
(E) Many people have a disinclination to recognize the weakness of their analytical skills while willing to admit their lack of computer skills or other technical skills.
{ The usage "have a disinclination " is considered too wordy. Additionally, the meaning changes a bit.
The meaning changes to "Many people have a disinclination.....while willing to admit...... This implies that Many people have a disinclination while (ie at the same time) that they admit their lack of computer skills.
E.g : Pam was watching the movie while Joe was cooking dinner. This sentence implies that the actions are parallel - occurring at the same time. }
