Hi,
I'm targeting fall 2014 admissions.
GMAT 710 (Q50, V36, AWA-5)
TOEFL 113
Undergraduate GPA - 8.8/10 electrical engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology.
Work experience - 16 months now, 25 months by the time a program starts
working as an Application Specialist with Philips Electronics India, taking care of lighting consulting, design, business developement and handle a business acquisition target of INR 250 million annually. Handling lighting consulting for key customers like Accenture, Jindal Steel, Bangalore Metro Rail, Aditya Birla Group, HP, KPMG etc. Have 1 person reporting to me. Also handling key lighting decision makers like architects, electrical consultants based out of Bangalore.
Co-Curriculars - Paper presentation - 1 (1st Position across India), internships-2 (L&T, Philips)
Extracurriculars - College Placement Coordinator for Electrical Dept, Board Member of a Student Club, Social work, Avid TT player.
Post MBA Goal - business consulting
Target Schools :
USC Marshall
Maryland Smith
Rochester Simon
Ohio Fisher
California Irvine Merage
Purdue Krannert
George Washington
Can you help me understand if the schools im applying to are in line with my profile and which ones are safe out of these.
Any other schools that I should be looking at ?

Hi Abhishek,
You have average profile with decent GMAT score and academics but the only concern is low work ex. You will be just completing 2 years work ex by the time you join the program, but still if you focus on your application and work hard on essays/recos you have fair chances at your list of target schools. The list looks fine, why are you not targeting top 10 or 20 b-schools? You can target Kelley, Emory, UNC Kenan Flagler, Cornell, Ross. Out of your target list most of the b-schools are still safe!! so look for some little ambitious schools.

Building on Neha’s advice you might see if there is an overlap between the essays for certain schools you are applying to and some of the more ambitious programs. I think top 10 schools might be too far a stretch but definitely more top 15-25 schools and potentially one or two inside the Top 15.
