Hi,

I am an Indian male (age: 26), with 25 months of work experience as of today.
I currently work with ZS Associates as a Business operations Associate(10 months). I also have 15 months of Experience as a Software developer.

I would like to apply in the first round of 2016 to the following B Schools:
Kellog
Tuck
Fuqua
Duke
Berkeley(HAAS)
Georgetown

GMAT Score: 710 (V49 Q38 IR 7 AWA 4)

Graduation(2012): CGPA: 8.09/10 BE (Electronics and Communication) from Manipal Institute of Technology

Extra Curriculars:
Editorial Board member of a national level technical club in college
Organised tech events in the College tech fest
Worked with CACTUS Communications as a Freelance Specialist Editor in the Physical Sciences department

Post MBA Goal:
Targeting Consulting/General Management

Please let me know what schools would be most suitable and also whether the ones i have chosen are within reach or not! :)
Please do share your recommendations!
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Adutta,

I think you can very well wait another year, as you have already planned, and strengthen your career profile through the ZS role. You should have some solid work related achievements in your kitty that demonstrate the impact have you made at both your organizations. Also what has your career progress been like?

If you plan to apply to the top b-schools, you should take a shot at the GMAT again, with an aim to score 730+.

Because of the lack of information here, I am missing some pieces in the picture. For instance, its difficult to understand what uniqueness/strengths do you bring to the b-school environment? Specially at the top business schools. For this reason I suggest that you spend the time until next year to fill in the gaps in your candidacy.

A slightly different take Adutta120689:
  1. The transition from software to IT is fantastic and in the right direction when it comes to consulting. That said, the ZS model is a mix of back/middle office and front office. Just because you are at ZS would not mean much unless you can show clear achievements and impact in the one year you have at hand. So your task is really cut out and the jury is still out there in my opinion
  2. Your ECs all seem to be during college time. Nothing after that? That will mean very modest brownie points really. Another area to think deeper on
  3. There seems to be definite potential for a retake on the GMAT. The AWA score will not help matters. 710 is not a bad score, but then, you are not aiming for the modest schools.
  4. For reasons mentioned here, it will be premature on my part to comment on specific schools. But the list you have is definitely on the aggressive side and you need to work really hard for the next year to stake a claim at some of them. We have created a Profile Builder package exactly for folks in situation such as yours to think through this effort in a structured manner.

Hope this sparks some new thoughts.

Cheers,
