Question

Hi Everyone,

I have got a score of 640 on GMAT in Dec. 2014,and my dream course and schools are:

Logistics/Operations Management at

1)Arizona State University The Carey School of Business
2)Michigan State Eli broad college of Business
3)Rotterdam School of management
4)International Institute for Management Development
5)University of South Australia

I have a work experience of 1.5 years in finance (Family Business,Small firm) and 6 months of experience as Assistant Team Leader in Logistics at Jaguar and Land Rover.I am further planning to continue the same job for another 6 months and then apply.I have completed my engineering in Industrial and I have got 74% ,in 12th I got 72% and in 10th I got 83%.I have accomplished many courses like CII Certifications,CILT certificate,also I am currently pursuing SCx X-series certification course from MIT at Edx.org,also I was very much involved in other co-curricular activities like I was the president of my branch in my college,Invented a new event at my college cultural festival,held a position of treasurer for a committee at college and was also involved in Music as I have completed two exams of TABLA (Indian Instrument),represented my branch in Table tennis,and was a vice-captain of my school cricket team.I also teach orphanage kids mathematics at an NGO every Sunday.

What are my chances of getting into one of these schools.Also I am considering giving GMAT once again if required.Please guide me.

Thanks for sharing your information. I like the target schools you've listed. I think they're aligned for the most part. I also like that you're planning to gain the necessary additional work experience before you apply. In that time frame, are you in a position to retake the GMAT? Breaking into the 670-680 range could help you stand out at the schools you're interested in. Hope this information helps. Thanks for sharing your profile, I would recommend taking the GMAT again. I think you have created a nice target school list that offers the programs you are looking for. You want to aim to exceed the average at your target programs by at least +20 which leaves you just shy of the 700 mark. So given the time you have take a stab at the GMAT again and see if you can pull that score up

You have some great activities outside of work. If you can demonstrate a leadership role in them, you would be in a good position.

Thank you very much guys for your suggestions.OK.So I guess I should start preparing for GMAT once again and if I get a score of say 680-700 I have a shot at my targeted schools right ? I wanted to know if I bump the GMAT this time and in case I am not able to pass my previous score (i.e 640) so which score will be considered ? and that my current GMAT score is of 2014 is it any problem that its a bit old at the time of admission.

Yes, you sure will have a shot! And your highest score will be considered. GMAT scores are good for 5 years. Best of luck!

Hi there,

You have a decent profile. Your work experience, academics and extracurricular are really good.

The list of B-Schools you have chosen are good as per your profile and requirement. I would definitely recommend you to retake your GMAT Score and target for 700+ to improve your chances of getting admission to the B-Schools you have mentioned above.

Hello every1,

Ok.Just wanted to break the news that I have bombed my 2nd attempt in a big way and was able to score a 590 (Q 44 & V28).
Don't know what happened as I was scoring well in the range of 660-690 in all the GMAT Prep & MGMAT exams.

Any ways didn't want to talk too much about that.Just wanted to know now that what are my options considering my 2nd attempt.I am clearly eliminating Eli Broad & WP Carey at this score.

Wanted to know whether I should even apply to University of Tennessee (Knoxville) & any others out of India as this low score IMO would not help me get admission anywhere.

Also would like to know whether my previous 640 (Dec 2014) would be eligible or not as I have heard that many adcoms consider the latest score of GMAT.

Can any one please throw some light on Indian Schools which accepts GMAT Scores and that too this low.

I am thinking of applying to SP Jain & Great Lakes.

Please help me to understand what to do now ?

Schools generally will focus on your highest score, they will probably be surprised at your most recent score but will focus on your highest score

Ok.Also would like to know what are the chances of getting into Nanyang Business School and SMU (Singapore).By looking at their websites,its looking that they have relatively less average GMAT Score.

HI ynk,

The GMAT score expectations are generally higher for the Indians, even though the class average score may be lower. We had helped an applicant get admission into SMU with a 640 (& 8 years WE in IT) a few years ago, but I can't say for sure that it would be a good score now.

At Nanyang, I think your score will pose some challenges, just because of the stiff competition and number of Indians who apply to that school.
