Federal Government (FERC) for almost 3 years
Consulting in Energy Efficiency for a year and a half
Utility for 6 months (will be a year upon matriculation)
I had to leave my consulting gig because the company was not getting work and was going under! Switched to the utility world, which has been great, but I want to pursue business school right now. Should I explain this in my application?
I will have very strong recommendations, but not from my current employer because I am not telling them I'm applying to business school.
In my application, I'm going to stress my career in the energy industry. I want to work in the social/technological innovation space as a thought leader, focusing on solutions to our energy problems.
Other activities: Pro Bono consulting for a sustainable agriculture non-profit, College ambassador for both Cornell and my graduate program, pitching screenplays
Any insight would be great! I just took the GMAT yesterday and am applying R2, so it's going to be a hustle!

Congrats on the GMAT score! What do you specifically do within the utility space? What kind of company do you envision working for post-MBA?
Your GPA will hurt you, but the GMAT counteracts that to some extent (not completely by any means). Let me know where you work specifically now either on the forum if you feel comfortable or by emailing me at [email protected]. Company and role would help my evaluation. I recommend applying to some top 10 schools for sure and maybe reaching a bit lower as well given your varied professional background and the 3.2.

Hey there!
So you will be totally fine!
You have a great profile, a unique background, are female, and have a stellar GMAT!!! Even some good volunteer work too!
Of course you will have to get moving with those essays are right them NOW! But with your profile, I wouldn't want you to settle for anything less than Top10.
