I am 32 and will be 33 by the time I start applying to B-School. Please don't be concerned. Yes, I have my estate in order.
My question is not a new one I know but how do Business Schools determine age? Presumably you have to put your birth date on your application but let's say I got my undergrad in 2010 and have 5/6 year of experience. Will I be judged less harshly then someone who graduated at 22 and has 10 years of experience? Do schools offer a senior discount on tuition?
If my stats make me competitive for a top 5, could I still do a top 15 considering my advanced age? Are there any schools that are more forgiving of the elderly?
Thanks for the post. The schools will know your age from your application as you mentioned. In terms of your years of experience, this could either help you or hurt you. Why did you graduate in 2010? Were you doing military service beforehand? That is the best reason for applying older and if that's the case it won't hurt you as much.
If you have a profile for a top 5 then reaching a bit lower because of the age is a good idea.
That said, I would love to give you more specific help and work on your applications together. Send me a note so I can learn more about your background and suggest the best schools for you. There are many full-time programs that would be good options for you so we should discuss.
