Undergrad: Engineering at Syracuse University
Work experience: 5 years in sales engineering, business development
Post-MBA career goals: unknown, at a crossroads. Not satisfied with my career so far, and considering a career change, maybe into consulting or finance.
What schools would you recommend I target?
I have already applied to some schools this year but am considering delaying my decision and applying to more schools year.
I would've liked to stay in the Boston area so I applied to Harvard and MIT in Round 1 and was denied without interview.
I also applied to Yale in Round 1 and was denied without interview.
I then applied to Georgetown, Boston University, and Boston College in Round 2, and have interviews lined up for all three.
Or should I put this off another year and apply to better schools next year?
Or put off B-school altogether? I understand not having defined career goals is not helping me. I currently make ~$100K and am wondering if an MBA is even worth it if I can't get into a top 10 school.

Thanks for sharing your background with us. Your academic profile puts you in a good position for a shot at a few top 10 schools. However, as you mentioned, not having a clear sense of what you want to do makes recommending specific schools difficult. This is likely the biggest reason you didn't get interviewed at HBS/MIT.
Since you already did the work to go through the process with these other schools and have secured interviews already, you might as well go through the process to see where you get in. From there, you could request deferral (but you'll need a good reason) for a year and have these program(s) serve as your backup. For next season, R1 is a must, and honing in on what exactly you want to do post-MBA should be your primary objective. Once you've nailed down school selection, you should arrange visits to those schools and start networking with professors and students.
In thinking about whether an MBA is right for you to begin with, salary is an important consideration, but satisfaction in your career is much more important, especially with someone with your experience. So first, take some time to explore your career options and the opportunities that come out of an MBA candidate (see schools' recruitment websites for a list of companies and roles). Best of luck on your search, and should you decide to pursue your applications, take a look at our free resources to help you get things started!
