Please Review My Profile
Demographic: 28 yr old African, Male (29 by matriculation)
Education: GPA 3.59, phi beta kappa (top 20 Midwest Lib arts College, think Carleton, Oberlin, Grinnell..)
GPA deteriorated significantly in final semester of senior year, (death in family couldn't deal with it otherwise would've graduated above 3.8, will have to explain in essays)
GMAT: 740 (Q49, V41, IR 7) (97th percentile)
CFA level 3 passed
Work Ex: 1 yr Grad rotational program, 2 years Credit Analyst,, 2 years Rates & Currencies Trader (British Bank, branch in Africa)
Extra Curricular: - leadership role in bank's charity program (2 years), 2 yr consulting for education non profit, Tutor group of local kids in my community
Extra Curricular in School: Math and Econ Tutor, Student Dev't Representative, Films committee on Student gov't, Work with community meal volunteering group)
My top 3 targets are Booth, Wharton and Columbia.
Please let me know if above profile would be competitive in those schools.

Your chances at these 3 schools are good. Your GMAT is strong and your GPA is not too far off line, though I would still explain the circumstances in an optional essay. Moreover, your CFA further reinforces your academic preparedness. I think your focus should be on highlighting your leadership, which our extracurriculars seem to support. You could further differentiate yourself through well-chosen post-MBA goals. In addition to these 3 schools, I would consider, say, 3 other top schools (that you could see yourself attending) to optimize your odds, e.g., Booth. Demonstrating strong accomplishments at work and extracurricular activities would help show our leadership potential and career progress.
