Hi,
I am an Indian male aged 28 having close to 4 yrs experience as a business analyst in IT. I have a confusion regarding approach towards pursuing an MBA/masters abroad which will help me switch my profile and boost my career prospects. Now I have already done an MBA from a descent institute in INDIA (ICFAI BUSINESS SCHOOL HYDERABAD) and one of the best for finance courses. Now I had started preparing for GMAT in march not thinking about which specific universities or course I would like to pursue. But recently due to some issues regarding my workplace I had left preparation for 1.5 months. I had completed a fair amount of course material. Now I am confused which course I want to or I should pursue and from which university. I thought of getting back to preparation and writing the GMAT in another two months but I think I will be rushing too much and also wouldn't be able to meet most deadlines so decided to apply for 2018 session.Also i would get time to get more experience and probably add value to my profile. Kindly guide if I have a chance to appear for next year's session based on time taken to write GMAT and admissions? Also what is the best approach shall I first decide on the course and university and then get back to GMAT preparation or write the GMAT and then research about programs and universities?

Thanks for sharing your question with us. First off, I'll need a bit of clarification. What is it that you hope to accomplish with your MBA? What types of roles are you looking for 2-3 years down the line? What about in 5-8 years? In regards to your GMAT, I'm not quite sure I understood the options you have, but if your not scoring in the median of your target school's range in your practice tests, you should keep practicing until you get there :D. Basically I want to pursue a masters/MBA programme primarily for two reasons:
1) To enhance my career prospects
2) To switch my profile and choose a career path which aligns more with my skills and interests.
Though I am yet to single out the universities or the programs I need to target I have a few areas in my mind and I am in process of exploring them.
First is business management in finance. This is because I already have a similar educational background owing to my masters and undergraduate. I think i am inclined towards private equity/investment banking since I have worked in an IT company with similar domain. Second option is business analysis since it aligns with my work experience. Final option is data science/data analytics which is one of the most sought after profiles in today's job market and it is expected to grow further in the coming years. So I am right now researching and understanding more about this field by enrolling in an online course to establish a basic foundation and skills which I can further enhance by pursuing an MBA abroad. Regarding the target score I want to get a great exposure and targeting the best universities I can get so I am targeting a score of over 700 and willing to spend time for it along with my work commitments. I am mostly looking at 1 yr programs but not necessarily fixated to this based on the options I can get. I guess NUS Singapore and most European schools and I fact university of Melbourne are some options I can look at considering the courses and the costs involved though I am willing to look at US B schools as well based on the university and course since they are generally expensive. Kindly provide your comments and let me know the approach towards going through the entire process of securing admissions and post MBA prospects.
