I've completed interviews at 3 of the 5 schools I applied to in R2, with 1 more coming up next weekend and another that I haven't yet received an invite for. There's still 5 - 6 weeks until decisions are released for R2, and I feel like I could be doing something to increase my chances. I've registered for a few online chats that each of the schools host, and am trying to keep in contact with the current students I interacted with on campus. Any tips for how we can use the gap between interviewing and decision day to demonstrate interest or increase odds of acceptance? Thanks!
Generally, the time between the interview and decision is quite short (4-6 weeks). Best practice is to send a well thought out thank you e-mail indicating your interest in the school and listing unique (to you) reasons why its a great fit.
I wouldn't do anything over the top during this time frame. The fact you were given an interview already means the school likes you a lot. You don't want to come across as pushy or insecure during this time frame. At this point, the school has all of the data points it needs and your actions up until decision day can only serve to hurt and not help you.
Its perfectly ok to send follow up questions to your interviewer, but do it for your own good, not to try an impress anyone (once the interviewer submits their review of your performance, the file is largely closed). Keep up the light communication and don't be tempted to go for a grandiose gesture!
Best,
