Hey Experts!
I would love to have feedback on my profile!
I will be applying for R1 next year (2021)
Background: Indian Male
Age: 25 (At the time of Matriculation in 2021)
Education: B. Pharmacy (Hons.) from BITS Pilani (Top 10 institutes in India)
CGPA: 6.49/10
GMAT: 720 (Q50, V37) [Got 680 (Q49, V33; Q47, V37) in my first two attempts]
WE: 50 months (~4 years) (At the time of Matriculation in 2021)
Current field of work: Public Health; Public Policy
WE:
Job #1 (19 months):
- Worked at Tata Trusts in the National Nutrition Mission in Rural Andhra Pradesh (a south state in India) converging the district Health, Women & Child, Education, Water & Sanitation Departments to help reduce Malnutrition in 0-6 yr old Children and Pregnant & Lactating women.
- My work required me to lead and drive the nutrition mission in the district, do field visits, build capacity of ~4000 field functionaries and advocacy for the District Magistrate.
- Two of my initiatives were featured in the Tata Trusts quarterly magazine on National Nutrition Mission.
- My immediate boss was a Harvard Grad (Law) (- now into philanthropy) and is ready to write my LoR.
Job #2 (Jan 2020 - till matriculation):
- My work in rural Andhra was recognised and I was offered a role (as a Program Officer) in an organisation that is working on micronutrient fortification of staple food in India under the same National Nutrition Mission.
- This organisation is an International NGO and works closely with other such NGOs (UNICEF, BMGF etc.) working in the food fortification space.
- The South East Asia office (the one I work at) has only ~4 employees - means I get more exposure in multiple projects.
- My boss is the South East Asia co-ordinator and was previously Head of Department, Department of Community Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He’s also the recipient of multiple awards including ‘Public Health Champion’ by WHO - and is ready to write my LoR.
Extra Curricular:
- Was the Head of Department, Department of Sponsorship & Marketing in BITS Pilani. Raised a sponsorship of 80L (~100,000 $) with a team of 30 for the National Annual Cultural Festival of BITS Pilani - Pearl’17
- Was a cadet at National Cadet Corps
- Was a part of Multiple departments and clubs in BITS Pilani.
- Volunteered for the Indian General Elections (2019) while working for the District Magistrate in Rural Andhra Pradesh.
[I believe I’ll get to organise a few workshops and events while at the current job - idk if such events count though]
MBA:
I would like to do my MBA in schools that have a strong healthcare focus/ presence. I would like to work in the social impact or the healthcare consulting field - more specifically in the Health and Well-being niche in Big 4/ boutique firms. Would like to work in the same nutrition space in India in the long term.
Schools I’m specifically looking at: Duke, Yale, Ross, Darden, Cornell and Kenan Flagler (Mostly because of their healthcare presence and their STEM MBA certifications)
I believe the biggest cons in my profile would be low CGPA and low WE of 4 yrs (considering Avg WE at these school is ~5)
Questions:
What are my chances at these schools given that I’ll be applying for R1, Sept’21?
Can I do anything in the next ~13 months to improve my chances/ build my profile?
Is it a good option to retake the GMAT for a ~740 given that I have time?
