Dear Experts
In various recommendation forms, I have seen that the recommenders are asked to rate the applicant on a comparative basis with choices such as- excellent (top2%), very good (top 10%), good (top 20%), average (top 50%) and so on.
While the applicant can suggest the content to be included in the LOR, they have no influence on the ratings.
Thus, could you please give me an idea on how influential these ratings might be in the decision-making process for top b-schools such as INSEAD and LBS?
Also, would a rating below excellent/very good overall or in any particular parameter hurt my chance of acceptance?
Should I explicitly ask my recommender on how they are planning to rate me?
Thank you!

We have been asked this question many times here at
ARINGOThe rating table should be rated by your recommender, and based on what they think about you. if they think you are excellent and "superior" to your peers in every aspect, this should be reflected in botht the letter of recommendation and in the rating table
So for example, if they think you are amazing, and there are 10 ratings, it is common to give you 8 or 9 high marks (or even 10/10)
hope this helps
and by the way, as I am a London Business School expert

I would tell your recommenders to pay attention to LBS's rating table, where 1 is the high score and 5 is the low score...
GOOD LUCK!
