Hi Gmatclub experts,
I am planning to apply next intake for an MBA(Jan 2023 onwards). I am currently working as a Sr Analyst with MBB. I have recently been offered a job into marketing analytics for product company. I wanted to get views of experts whether exiting from MBB would hurt my chances at MBA from Top tier schools. I have also shortlisted some schools.
My profile-
GMAT - 770
Work Ex - Sr. Analyst, MBB (5+ years)
International projects
Background - (Age)27, Indian, Male,
Education - Engineer(B.E. in Information Technology) (GPA 7.6)
Accomplishments - 1 article in a reputed journal for data science.
Extracurriculars - Voluntary experience(CSR, NGOs) + currently running my own social initiative for feeding animals.
LORSs - 1 academic from the professor under whom I published the paper. 1 from my mid level manager.
Shortlisted universities :
1. INSEAD
2. London School of business
3. Cambridge, Judge
US schools
1. Ivy leagues
2. NYU
Asian
1. ISB Hyderabad

My work experience has been diverse, across various industries and countries in cross cultural settings. Initially I worked as automation analyst, then did some projects in data analytics and now I work as product manager. I have recently been offered a role as data analyst (market intelligence,BI) for a product company. This job would provide me with a chance to deepen my expertise in one domain, as has not been the case so far with my role at MBB. My dilemma is that whether switching from MBB to product company and getting into analytics from product domain, would hurt my chances of an admit at a top B school?

Hi Prakhar,
This year we worked with two applicants who had switched from consulting companies to product management roles and were now applying as product managers. So I would not say this is unheard of.
It depends on what your career goals are- if you wish to be in product management post MBA, a job in the field will give you relevant exposure and therefore will help to build your story further. That might be the case as you are already working on the product side in your current job. You can easily justify that the new job is letting you dive deeper into the role which will help you post MBA in your job search. I hope the company you plan to join will give you sufficient opportunities to make some impact (and get some resume data points).
But, with everything looking great in your profile, the GMAT score needs to go up 20+ points

I took your suggestion into account. I have taken the gmat again and scored a decent 770 this time.
