Are you applying round one of these schools and to the September 28 deadline for Columbia? In that case you just absolutely don’t have time to try to get a better score of the Gmat, you really want to spend all of your remaining time on those applications they are very time consuming if you’re doing it right. And if your applications aren’t well thought out and compelling the test score doesn’t matter. For your Q score generally 12 and above is considered strong, and if you have a good undergraduate math grades you might point that out as well in the addl info/optional essay.

Hello, I am from Mexico, and planning to apply for 2023 cycle.
Ofcourse I am working with GMAT, but for some reason, I am not scoring very well with GMAT, so I have tried EA and just scored 159

Total 159
IR 12
VR 14
QR 13

I normally score 160~162 with Official prep assessment, and yes, real exam didnt reached.
Usually I am strong with QR but somehow, my QR score was not very good (maybe test day anxiety)

I am planning to apply full time MBA with

Columbia
Darden
Tepper
Duke Fuqua
Rice Jones

Do you think 159 will be good for FT MBA?
I will continue work with GMAT, but case I do not reach my target score (700+) with GMAT, I will apply with EA.

Currently I am working with leading consumer electronics company (Mobile Telecom)
with 9 years experience in internal finance (corporate FP&A)

Do you think I should take EA again to score 160+ in case GMAT is not coming up?

Hoping to apply to columbias J term with about 8 years of work experience, in family business primarily. I have a 3.3 overall science major GPA with a 99%tile EA score.

I took the the EA after struggling with the GMAT 5 years ago. It was a much better test for me.

Are raw stats like these enough to warrant consideration for candidacy without an immediate ding?

You haven't given much detail, so let me focus on your specific question:
Are raw stats like these enough to warrant consideration for candidacy without an immediate ding?

For those schools that consider EA, and with 8 years kind of WE, You WILL get serious consideration. That said, without a compelling story through your essays & application, the risks can be high, regardless of how good a profile/score/ stats you have

Hey, Hombrefinanza,

You have a decent EA score; depending on the round, you are applying to these B-schools, make a decision. If you are targeting round 1, I think you should proceed with your application. Applications to these schools is a long process and would require special attention to other aspects of your profile. If you wish to target round 2 or 3, you can go ahead with a 700+ GMAT score.

You appear to have significant job experience; try to identify your strengths and move ahead with the application process. If you need more help making your profile stand out, feel free to book a FREE session with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

This is a load off my mind! I DO believe I have a compelling story that I've hopefully communicated through my essays. I think the weakest portion of my application would be a lack of "organized" Extracurriculars. Primarily the extracurricular work/community service/ I have done has been not through organizations but solo ventures and projects.

Story is I worked in family business pre- and post grad, and helped significantly develop and scale our business. I still work with that family business and plan to return to that post MBA. However I also have 2 small/reasonably successful startups. Hoping to primarily target CBS J term (FT, accepts EA) and perhaps Wharton EMBA.

Are there any other schools that could do well for someone like me? In addition to entrepreneurship, and family business development (healthcare), I have an interest in Finance.
