ABHIJITPAL
My Gmat score is 645, with 89 percentile
Percentiles -
Quant -84
DI -85
Verbal -79
I have done my Egineering from IIT Dhanbad in mining engineering and have been working in Coal India Limited ( A Public Sector Company of Government of India) from last 7.5 years.
I have served at different positions in my company and have been involved in many policy decisions as well as formulation and planning of different projects.
I wish to do executive MBA either from reputed college in my country such as - ISB, IIMA, IIM B or from other reputed collges of the world
Do I have a chance in the above colleges with my current GMAT Score or should I try for more mark in next Gmat Focus exam ?
Hi
ABHIJITPAL hope you are doing great todayI have worked with many people from the public sector for ISB and IIMs, so I am happy to pitch in my recommendations. Unfortunately, Abhijit, the schools are critical of candidates who have been in the public sector for a very long time and are looking to an MBA as an exit path. There are many challenges with these profiles, such as the habit of working with a top-down approach, lack of exposure to analytical thinking, and too much focus on day-to-day functional details without looking at the big picture. Beyond attaining a solid GMAT score, you should bring out a truly dynamic personality and a great understanding of how business fundamentals work. You must showcase the transferable skills that will help you get closer to your dream job post-MBA.
A 645 FE is a risky score in my opinion. You should target upwards of 695 on FE if you want IIM A and ISB to seriously consider you. I am happy to explain my reasons if you reach out. Also, you have a very strong undergraduate pedigree, don't let a GMAT score pull you down. With the Focus Edition, there is also less transparency around how a school perceives respective scores versus what GMAC translates. Over time, the schools will gradually build a new FE database and we will know more, but for now, it's better to be safe and aim higher.
Feel free to speak should you want professional advice
Best wishes
