"240 species" is the subject, which is obviously plural. So, B and E that use "includes" would be wrong.

A has an issue with with parallelism while C incorrectly uses present participial "growing". This present participial "growing" is also an issue with B.

Options B and E are out due to subject-verb disagreement: species (plural) + includes (singular) is incorrect.

Option C has two mistakes. Second 'tall' is redundant. Parallelism is not maintained in the clauses before and after 'and': 'growing ...'   + 'and' + 'well-known..'

Between option A and D: option A has the same parallelism problem: 'can ..'   + 'and' + 'it...'  .

That leaves option D.

Is to be used correctly in the sentence?
I read that Noun + no comma + to be verb --> basically implies that this is going to happen to the noun mentioned. 
Isn't as tall as more correct instead of to be?
