I presume 'analytical power' is describing Microeconomics.

Not sure why 'thereby' is correct though.

In this context 'thereby' which means (as a result that or by that means) makes more sense rather than the word 'therefore'. Microeconomics of A(greater veracity) +B ( more scrupulousness) will result in C and D. 
Therefore, leaves this thought incomplete.

I understand why B could be correct (because of parallelism "of") but "thereby" changes the meaning. This sentence should depict contrast but "thereby" shows conclusion. What is the source of this question?

Is it because the underlined part describes "microeconomics" ?

Hence both its ("microeconomics") modifiers should be parallel

There are ......... to call for a microeconomics of A, thereby of a B. ???

No other option has "of ...." hence B)
Not clear about this, could someone please further clarify this?

Hi, 
yes underlined part modifies "microeconomics" because "greater descriptive and analytical power" can only refer to "microeconomics". Yes we should have "microeconomics of = microeconomics of". In this sentence "thereby" means "so that" and hence only B is correct.

I went for C but then after re-reading B, B looks better than C.

Here is my 2 cents about the question anyway.
If you look at the question:
 There are pressing reasons to call for a microeconomics of greater empirical veracity and more methodological scrupulousness, thereby of a greater descriptive and analytical power. 
this way

There are pressing reasons to call for ABC of P and R, there by of X and Y.

The point is ABC  (Macroeconomics)  is of P&R ( of greater empirical veracity  and  more methodological scrupulousness ) and because there are P & R, thereby X and Y ( of a greater descriptive  and  analytical power ) too. 
This "kind -off" causation effect is missing in A and C.

 I think we need a contrast here as provided by option A. However, Option A is wrong because we require Rather than of a greater descriptive and analytical powers.

The sentence is saying 
 There are pressing reasons to call for microeconomics of greater honesty and more ethics , RATHER THAN   of greater descriptive and Analytical powers (These two are something that are different from past two morals)

Can you please tell me where my understanding is wrong.

A changes the sentences meaning, introducing conflict where there is none. The use of ‘therefore’ is incorrect, as it implies a factual conclusion rather than a change, so E is wrong. Thus from option D is similarly inappropriate. The choice comes down to B or C. Out of these B is the better choice as it maintains parallelism, C compares the microeconomics to the powers.

Though I got it wrong initially for interpreting it incorrectly, I would like to pour by 2 cents to this.

Meaning Analysis: There is a need for a better empirical truthfulness and methodological integrity, there is also a need for greater descriptive and analytical powers. It’s not that one thing is required rather than the other one. Thus, a contrast is actually wrong. We are more likely looking for a cause and effect relationship.

Option A presents the contrast and hence is wrong.

Option B clearly states that one thing leads to another. Hence, this option is correct.

Option C puts more emphasis on greater descriptive powers than analytical powers. The use of “as well as” puts more importance on the first instance than the second. Thus, the meaning is slightly getting distorted here.

Option D and E are using incorrect construction by dropping “of”. 
The correct statement is “There are pressing reasons to call for X ..thereby of Y”.

I would agree with you mostly; sitting in a reclining armchair after my breakfast, I might brood about this question and its use of weird economic terminology. But more conspicuous and forthwith is the presence of prepositional parallelism 'of' in B and its absence in all other choices. This topic will be better suited for a GRE Text Completion topic that tests the use of vocabulary in context.

However, it may be seen that the intnended sentnece by the original author uses a plural -descriptive and analytical  powers.  It is not clear why the author of this topics gose singular on the power, digressing from the plural that the prompt displays.
