Then simply  MEANING  is the deciding factor. Noble Prize is awarded to a person, not to an “ author’s lifetime’s achievement ”, so C ruled out. Also in E “ by an author ” indicates the concerned author is giving the award – which is not the original meaning.

Option C has two possessive adjective which also redundent. Option E is ambiguous in meaning. So option D is correct.
