in our 5 second scan we can notice a split between that vs of and to maintain vs maintaining

its should  "that"  and not of

"Of" is wrong because it creates meaning error 
  
"Afraid of someone/ noun"  
 
 "Afraid That something is going to happen"

Between A and B... A is more concise and correct

Between A and E toughie.
By meaning of the sentence , it makes sense that leading up to crashes of x , fears were raised in X.

There can be two opinions here one that the market is predicting future crash of IT companies and the other is that A, B, C are causing fear in X for future sustainability.

I vote for E rather than A

Sentence structure is -> Leading to an dot com crash event, mergers, lawsuits and scandals raised fears..what sort of fears? that internet companies would be unable to maintain their market share.

A. that internet companies would be unable to maintain
this is concise and correctly describes the fears. 'would' correctly identifies uncertain event in the future

B. that there would be internet companies unable to maintain
there would be -> is wordy

C. of internet companies unable to maintain
raised fears of internet companies - is not correct way to indicate what sort of fears. unable to maintain modifies companies, it is already assumed those companies are unable to maintain the market share.

D. of internet companies that would be unable of maintaining
raised fears of internet companies - is not correct way to indicate what sort of fears. when we describe ability of something or someone, we say ability to do X. companies would be unable to maintain and not of maintaining.

E. of internet companies that are unable to maintain
raised fears of internet companies - is not correct way to indicate what sort of fears. this sentence also indicates/describes fears of those companies that are already unable to maintain the market share.

A is the answer!

Meaning: Just before the dot com crash happened, company mergers, lawsuits and scandals raised some fears. The fears were that internet companies would not be able to maintain their market share
Analysis:
1. Use of would - To denote a future action from a past time - correct
2. Raised fears that - idiomatic use of that - correct

Option A - seems okay
Option B - Distorts the meaning. The main sentence is speaking about interent companies in general. This choice is speaking about a few interent companies
Option C - Use of "of" is unidiomatic
Option D - Use of "of" is unidiomatic. Plus similar to option B this choice too distorts the meaning
Option E - The main sentence intends to predict a future action. By using present tense the choice is speaking about companies that have already lost their market share

Hence, answer - A
