Present Perfect tense vs Simple Past Tense

Simple Past Tense is preferred over present perfect tense when Time is mentioned.

Moreover if Perfect Tense is used for Fading of Memory

As in " Memory has faded" it would imply that the fading of memory has happened just now.

C is the best pick

I thought A is correct since the conflict had faded from popular memory but then the second war rekindled the memory which still lingers so the present perfect in the second case is fine. The 'it' also clearly means the conflict cause the war they have said ended so mostly no ambiguity there.
I am still confused why the option is wrong.

I highly think that the usage of “due to” is wrong here, since it is a noun modifier.
In this case, it seems to be modifying the fact that the conflict “DID NOT DISAPPEAR”.
Does someone agree with me?
