Rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior.

A) Rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior :- "Misplaced modifier, " Rather than taking intentions into account" must modify children and not researcher.

B) Rather than take intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior :- Same as A, misplaced modifier

C) Piaget and other researchers have shown that, rather than take intentions into account, young children focus on the consequences of behavior :-Correct

D) Young children focus on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown :- Two Independent clauses can not be joined by "comma"

E) Focusing on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account is what young children do, Piaget and other researchers have shown :- construction is unnecessary long

IMO C,

A) Rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior
Modifier error - the first sentence is incorrectly modifying the Piaget and other researchers. Hence eliminate.

B) Rather than take intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior
Same error as A

C) Piaget and other researchers have shown that, rather than take intentions into account, young children focus on the consequences of behavior
Correct answer

D) Young children focus on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown
Construction Error - Two Independent clauses are split by comma. Hence eliminate

E) Focusing on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account is what young children do, Piaget and other researchers have shown
Construction Error- This is awkward construction and wordy. Not preferred over C.

Rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior.

Meaning Analysis: Piaget & other show that, young children focus on consequence rather than intentions.
Error in OS: Modifier Placement Error; Here Rather than taking intentions into account is modifying Piaget & Others.

A) Rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior - Explained\
B) Rather than take intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown that young children focus on the consequences of behavior - Same as above.
C) Piaget and other researchers have shown that, rather than take intentions into account, young children focus on the consequences of behavior - Best option, though I feel 'take' should be 'taking'.
D) Young children focus on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account, Piaget and other researchers have shown - Piaget & others have shown wht? Meaning error.
E) Focusing on the consequences of behavior rather than taking intentions into account is what young children do, Piaget and other researchers have shown - Here Verb-ing Modifier Focusing.. is modifying Piaget & Others.

Few Things to Remember in SC:

1)Start with identifying the clauses & SV Pairs. Check each verb has a subject & vice versa.
2)Look for Pronouns & find antecedent. Make sure they match in number. Also check for Possessive/Non Possessive Pronoun error.
3)Look for unidiomatic expressions, remember "considered as" is incorrect. :)
4)Look for Modifiers; Mostly you will find Verb-ing. Check for wording & placement.
5)Look for Tense, Parallelism errors.
6)Most important of all, look for meaning, but this will be required in > 700 Level Qs(Mostly).
7)Always read the non underlined portion ; Read complete sentence with your option before marking.
8)Stuck between two options, then check again, you have missed one of above.
