B is the only possible correct answer.

E is wrong because it talks about "value" to recommendations.. We dont know who gives how much value or if they give any value at all.. So it cant be a "must be true".

D presents a comparison between "work ex" and "reco". Kindly note an employer can choose to weigh which one to be weighed more. Nothing about the same mentioned in the passage.

Always look at the last sentence when you are going to answer:
"However, some employers will not hire a job applicant without a positive recommendation from his or her current employer"

If you look to this part you are going to see that the letter E cannot be the answer. Because its talking about the VALUE of the recommendations, and in the last sentence we are saying the a prerequisite to get the job is a positive recommendation.

Letter B says: If the job applicant says to not call the current employer, then the prerequisite will not be fulfilled.

I hope its clear

on second thought, since this is a "find the conclusion" type of question, only B actually makes sense. B is 100% supported by the information given in the argument, while D is a might be true answer choice.

Occasionally, a job applicant requests that prospective employers not contact her current employer because she does not want the current employer to know she is considering leaving that employer. However, some employers will not hire a job applicant without a positive recommendation from his or her current employer

Which of the following conclusions can be most properly drawn from the information above?

A.Some employers are not willing to give either positive or negative recommendations.
Irrelevant. This talks about the type of recommendations.

B.Job applicants are hurting their chances of getting hired by asking prospective employers not to contact their current employer.
Correct. Since without positive recommendation from the current employer, the prospective employers will not hire the applicant, so by not allowing the prospective employers to contact current employer the applicants have hurt their chances of getting hired by default.

C.Most job applicants receive favorable recommendations from previous employers.
Irrelevant. Favorable recommendations not mentioned in the argument

D.Some employers favor work experience over recommendations.
Irrelevant. Comparison of work experience and recommendation not mentioned in the argument

E.Some employers give very little value to recommendations provided by the job applicant.
Irrelevant. Value of recommendation is not mentioned in the argument

The question stem asks which conclusions can be most properly drawn. Since the correct answer choice must be supported by the passage, this is an inference question. Do not bother breaking the passage into its conclusion, premise, and assumption for inference questions. Instead, focus on what the passage states directly. The correct answer must be true based on the facts in the passage. The passage states that, Occasionally, a job applicant requests that prospective employers not contact her current employer. However, some employers will not hire a job applicant without a positive recommendation from his or her current employer. Evaluate the answer choices.

Choice A: No. Whether employers are willing to provide recommendations is out of scope.

Choice B: Correct. This conclusion can be drawn from the information above. If job applicants request that prospective employers not contact the current employer, then the current employer will not provide a recommendation. However, some employers must have a positive recommendation from a current employer to hire an applicant. Thus, applicants who do not provide a recommendation from a current employer may be hurting their chances of getting hired by some employers.

Choice C: No. The phrase, Most job applicants receive favorable recommendations, is out of scope. The passage discusses those job applicants who do not provide recommendations from their current employers.

Choice D: No. The phrase work experience is out of scope. The passage does not provide information about work experience and how it affects the hiring process.

Choice E: No. The phrase Some employers give very little value to recommendations is out of scope. The passage discusses employers who do require positive recommendations from current employers; it does not indicate whether any employers do not require or value such recommendations.

The correct answer is choice B.
