Hi, Im struggling to solve the below question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In March 2013, 15 new magazines appeared in the market. Seven of these magazines were entertainment magazines, five were journals of Current Affairs and three were aimed solely at women. By August 2013, only eight of these new magazines were still circulating in the market. Six of those that remained were entertainment magazines. Which one of the following can we infer?
A] Only one of the magazines for women remained in the market.
B] Only one of the Current Affairs magazines remained in the market
C] Magazine readers prefer entertainment magazines to Current Affairs ones.
D] At least one of the magazines that were cancelled was a Current Affairs magazine
E] At least one of the magazines that remained was a Women's magazine

Hi,
this Q involves in sheer numbers so lets see the final state of three types of magazine..
total -15 remaining 8.. out -7
1) entertainment magazines:- remaining 6 out of 7..
2)CA:- total three ... best situation the remaining 2 out of 8 in circulation are of CA and worst 0 out of 3..
3)women oriented- total 2- best both are in circulation and worst both are out..
lets see the choices..
A] Only one of the magazines for women remained in the market.
cannot say.. only 2 are in circulation out of 3 CA and 2 Women oriented.. as 3) shows, both remaining can be of Women magazine
B] Only one of the Current Affairs magazines remained in the market
cannot say.. only 2 are in circulation out of 3 CA and 2 Women oriented.. as 2) shows, both remaining can be of CA magazine
C] Magazine readers prefer entertainment magazines to Current Affairs ones.
we cannot generalize from the data.. it can be magazine out of circculation may be because of fund crunch and not preference
D] At least one of the magazines that were cancelled was a Current Affairs magazine
total remaining is 8. out of this 6 are entertainment ones. the best case for CA is when the remaining 2 are from CA.. but the CA magazines are 3 so atleast one has to be out of circulation CORRECT
E] At least one of the magazines that remained was a Women's magazine
total remaining is 8. out of this 6 are entertainment ones. the best case for CA is when the remaining 2 are from it.. so need not be true

Ok, Is the question kind of misleading in terms of numbers ? I am stumped with D and E and this is why ,
There were a total of 15 magazines-- 7 Entert + 5 CA + 3 W
Remaining is now 8 Magazines--- 6 Entert + ? CA + ? W
So thats like 7 Magazines were taken out - 1 we know is from Entert, so remaining 6 have to be from CA and W. Any which way you go, even if you took all CAs out thats only 5, we still need to take one from W.
So basically, one will have to go from each. That's a given. So both D & E say that . So how can E be the right one ?
