Here plugging in helps...start with option c for possible x value and see which value satisfies the given equation
Or you can form an equation x/4= x/8+2 -----> x= 16
Note that x/4 = 2x/8 and thus x/8= 2 from the above equation and hence x= 16...

The direct approach would be like this:
x/4 = x/8 + 2
x/4 - x/8 = 2
(8x-4x) = 64
4x = 64
x=16
(C) is the answer.

Let y = x/8.
So, 2y = x/4
Rewriting the equation (x/4) - (x/8) = 2 as 2y - y = 2, we get y = 2
Or, x/8 = 2
Or, x = 16
Hence, answer is option (C).
So, 2y = x/4

This is an Algebra, Linear Equations problem.
Such kind of sums need extra attention while setting up the equations and most of the options are trap answers from wrong set-up.
he correct set-up is : x/4 + 2 + x/8.
x/4-x/8=2
Here, if you realize that x/8 is actually half of x/4 then u directly have,
x/8=2
and therefore, x=16.

One of the best way of solving such questions is checking the options....
(C) \(x = 16\)
\(\frac{x}{8} = 2\)
\(\frac{x}{4} = 4\)
Where \(\frac{x}{4}\) is 2 more than \(\frac{x}{8}\)...
Thus, correct answer must be (C) 16
