If 1+2=7; 3+4=31;5+6=71; 7+8=127 then 9+10=?

1+2 = 7,

Take LHS and Sum that : 1+2 = 3 ...Now multiply 3 by 2 in (1+2) = 6 and add 1 in (1+2) to the result = 6+1 = 7.

1+2 =7 -----> (1^2 + 2^2) + (1+2) -1
3+4 = 31 -----> (3^2 + 4^2) + (3+4) -1
.
.
.
9+10 = 199 ----> (9^2 + 10^2) + (9+10) -1

I see what you did there Raghav, sometimes see a question answered like the way you did it helps me figure out how to solve similar questions in the future.

If 1+2=7; 3+4=31;5+6=71; 7+8=127 then 9+10=?
1+2 = 3 -> 7 = 3 + 4
3+4 = 7 -> 31 = 7 + 24
5+6 = 11 -> 71 = 11 + 60
7+8 = 15 -> 127 = 15 + 112
9+10 = 19 -> x = 19 + y

y is the next number in sequence {4, 24, 60, 112, y} ?

24 = 4 + 20

60 = 24 + 36

112 = 60 + 52

y = 112 + z

z is the next number in sequence {20, 36, 52, z}

36 = 20 + 16
52 = 36 + 16
z = 52 + 16 = 68

y = 112 + 68 = 180

x = 180 + 19 = 199

This is a fun diversion from preparing for the GMAT. However, in case anyone starts thinking this kind of question could ever appear on the GMAT, I should point out that it is not a GMAT-type question.
