What is \(\sqrt{82,944}\) ?

A. 288
B. 294
C. 299
D. 302
E. 307

\(\sqrt{82,944}\)

Square of digit \(8\) and \(2\) end with unit digit \(4\) .

Hence eliminate the options B, C, and E.

\(300^2 = 90000\) ----------- (Greater than \(82,944\))

Hence, \(\sqrt{82,944}\) = 288

Answer (A)...

Looks tricky but is indeed an easy question:

82,944 < 90,000 or 300^2; hence options 299,302,307 are out
since the square is ending with a '4' - the units digit must be 8
as 294^2 will have a 6 in units place

therefore Option A is correct

+1 kudos if u like the post.

I tried to solve it this way.

What is √82,944 ?

A. 288
B. 294
C. 299
D. 302
E. 307

The sq.root would be less than sq.root of 90000= 300

So Options C,D, and E are out. C because 299 is closer to 300.

Sq.root of 80000 is 280.
And 82944 is closer to 80000 than to 90000.

So the answer is A.

What is \(\sqrt{82,944}\) ?

A. 288
B. 294
C. 299
D. 302
E. 307

We are looking for a number that when multiplied by itself has a units digit of 4. Since we are determining the square root of 82,944, the square of that number must be 82,944 and the units digit of that number must be either 2 or 8, since both of these digits when squared has a units digit of 4 (2^2 = 4 and 8^2 = 64). This narrows down to the correct answer to either choice A or D.

We can easily rule out choice D. Note that 300^2 = 90,000, which is too big. We know, therefore, that the correct answer must be less than 300, leaving choice A as the correct answer.

Answer: A
