I thought it should 1/36 ?

Hi it depends how are you taking the denominator...
Here you are taking 6*6 so which you pick up matters..
Therefore 3,4 will be different from 4,3..
2/(6*6)=1/18..

Say you took as order does not matter..
6*6/2=18
And 3,4 in one way..so 1/18

What is the probability that rolling two identical dice together will result in a 3 and a 4?

A. 1/36
B. 1/30
C. 1/18
D. 1/12
E. 1/3

So we can roll a 3 on the first die and 4 on the second or vice versa.

Thus, the probability of rolling a 3 and 4 is 1/6 x 1/6 + 1/6 x 1/6 = 1/36 + 1/36 = 2/36 = 1/18.

Alternate Solution:

There are 36 possible rolls of two dice. There are two ways of obtaining a 3 and a 4: either (3, 4) or (4,3). Thus, there are 2 favorable outcomes out of 36 favorable, and so the probability is 2/36 = 1/18.

Answer: C

You can roll 2-dice at the same time; you are expecting to get #3 and #4.

In 2 possible ways to get this outcome:

1st possible outcome: Dice1 with #3 and Dice2 with #4
probabilities 1/6 and 1/6
total prob. is 1/6* 1/6= 1/36

2nd possible outcome: Dice1 with #4 and Dice2 with #3
probabilities 1/6 and 1/6
total prob. is 1/6* 1/6= 1/36

Now add the total number of possibilities: 1/36 + 1/36= 2/36 or 1/18

They didn't say here any order like 1st one 3 and 2nd one 4.
If said so then ans would be 1/36

We need to find What is the probability that rolling two identical dice together will result in a 3 and a 4?

As we are rolling two dice => Number of cases = \(6^2\) = 36

Lets start listing down the cases when rolling two identical dice together will result in a 3 and a 4. Following are the possible cases
(3,4) and (4,3)

=> 2 cases

=> Probability that rolling two identical dice together will result in a 3 and a 4 = \(\frac{2}{36}\) = \(\frac{1}{18}\)

So, Answer will be C
