In Europe you can always target Netherlands, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries to work without speaking their languages. They are quite open to foreigners. Don't forget Ireland too. So at least not only UK or Portugal as your choices ;)

True. I forgot about those countries - tells you how much I know about the job market there... we probably can expect changes to their policies, however, for the Scandinavian countries in terms of work permit and protectionism in terms of jobs. I don't know much about hiring in Europe - would those countries have consulting or tech or large retailer options? Ireland has some good presence due to their tax policy changes in 80's and 90's but not sure in terms of current situation.

Don't know much (or even at all) about consulting. I know they are present here.

But there are quite a lot of large MNCs in the Netherlands (Shell, Unilever, Philip are all Dutch companies). There are Ikea and Volvo in Sweden and there are quite plenty in Switzerland.

Guys, thank you all for your replies!! Well, it seems to be a tie thus far, with a slight advantage towards Tuck! Let me answer some questions to see if someone else jumps in to share his thoughts...

bb: I am aware that getting my MBA degree wont be relaxing, it is a huge investment on myself so I plan to work really hard, haha! What I meant was that in a 2Y MBA program I will have more time to enjoy the MBA experience (although I know I will make the time to enjoy it too in a 1Y program). My point is that for me the MBA is not just a means to an end, I am definitely looking forward to explore the campus vibe, interact with the community, network with alumni, and enjoy the perks of live in the US/EU.
Regarding MBB recruiting opportunities at INSEAD, I am pretty confident these firms have solid on-campus recruitment and if I really decide consulting is what I want to do, I wouldn't mind recruiting for their offices in Brazil. Though, at this moment, I am kind of leaning towards the opportunity to work for a large retailer, especially at a place where I could learn best practices of the discretionary retail industry to eventually adapt them and introduce them to my family's business. It is important to say that another reason for me to get my MBA is to become an innovative leader.
To your other point, my only network in the US/EU would be the one that the schools would offer me, for instance access to Brazilian alums. Although I have a former direct supervisor (he wrote one of my rec letters), who his an INSEAD alum. So, I guess he could vouch for me if necessary.

Mo2men & greenzie: Concerning retail placement, I feel both schools will be solid. For instance, Amazon, which is the Company I would probably choose to work for if I could lock my summer internship at this moment, is among the top hiring firms at both schools. In the US there are probably more options, such as: Walmart, CVS, etc. While in Europe, Ikea would be a really sweet Company to work for, since it is the largest furniture retailer in the world and my family's business is focused on furniture and housewares.

I had a quick look to employment reports for Tuck 2013-2015. You were right that Amazon, ebay and CVS recruit there. The employment stats for consumer goods & retail ranges from 7%-10%. If IkEA recruit from INSEAD, then you are lucky. It is one of best retail schools and their operations cases are used every where.

Although I have a slight bias for INSEAD, I think both schools are equal in consulting and industry.

Both schools are super strong for consulting, but dont really specialise in a particular area of industry (particularly retail - perhaps HEC would be stronger for that), though theyre still decent.

It all really comes down where you want to work. EU vs USA - and thats what only YOU can decide on. INSEAD have a very good influence in Asia and EU, Tuck in USA. Though INSEAD still has a decent name for itself in USA - though that seems to be localised to silicon valley (so tech - not really your interest) and will gain traction/interest on its new #1 FT ranking.

Cant say the same for Tuck, as i dont think it has such a name in EU, but similar to INSEAD & USA, Tuck has a alright name in Asia. The top 10 USA Business schools (and I'd say Tuck is a top 10 in US) all have a very good presence in Asia - who LOVE brands.
