Congratulations on your hard work paying off. Awesome to hear about your scholarships.
I know it is different in other parts of the world because of the parents university name recognition, but Yale and Fuqua and Ross are considered peer schools. Even they admit it. They conduct joint recruiting events. It is often a combination of Berkeley, Darden, Ross, Yale and Fuqua. Some of them are ranked higher historically and others a lower but in general they kind of occupy this first tier after M7.
Many of these programs have their focus and strengths. I’m not going to go and list all of them but they all have fairly unique sides and appeals to them. Yale is actually a consulting powerhouse. Fuqua is a combination of consulting and healthcare. Often people have the stereotype that Yale is a nonprofit school or something like that and Yale has actually worked very hard to kind of shed that perception. They still do get the attention of many social enterprise folks which is very nice but don’t mistake it as that being their main focus.
What I’m trying to say is for your goals, if you’re planning to stay within the United States, it’s probably not that much difference in terms of rank and opportunities in consulting or such. Social impact consulting is a niche That is actually challenging to get into. Many nonprofit and social jobs tend to be in high demand and they’re not enough of them for MBA level folks with MBA level salaries.
However, you will have a lot of consulting recruiting opportunities on campus at Fuqua just as you would at the Yale and I see no concerns from pure consulting side of things. I can definitely see that Yale would be a much stronger name in case you go back to your home country or try to do work around the world and people would be learning your background but that’s a bit of a stretch and a bit of a nebulous reason to pay extra $80,000 for. It’s nice to half but I don’t think you are trading a whole lot off by excepting Fuqua with a full scholarship. I would love if any of the folks from Yale would comment and prove me wrong. I am not in New Haven so I always value and give more priority to reports from people with boots on the ground.
