I am applying R1 for entry in Fall 2012...I have not visited the school and unfortunately missed out on the Adcom's presentation in Indian cities...any thoughts on good admission guides for Wharton?

The three esssays dont give you much room to go on and on about wharton. The only place where I could sing laurels of wharton , in a ver very concise way , would be the required essay - professional objectives.

If the recommenders say ' you will be great at the wharton follies " , its a dead give away that you coached them too much , or worse you wrote in a para or two yourself!!

what are your views on this?

And mind sharing your profile a little??

Guys, Wharton knows they are a good school - no need to sing praise; it will only add noise to your application. It is all about you, and how you will make the world better, how Wharton could help.

I cannot stress enough the importance of a clear application strategy. Singing praise to the school looks like your strategy is to suck up to the Adcom, and it is bound to fail (unless, maybe, you donate money to build a new addition to the Huntsman Hall :) )

Xerox,
A couple of my essays seem a little out of word limit. The professional essay is 12% excessive and the interpersonal challenge has about 5 % more than the word limit.
The essays seems unstrippable anymore. How fussy is wharton regarding this??

10% give or take seems to be the acceptable deviation from the mean at most schools.

Word on the street from this year's grads:
WG '10ers pursued IB, Finance, and Consulting
WG '11ers generally wanted to get into Consulting
A larger part of WG '12ers seem to be focused on Entrepreneurship more than anything.

Any thoughts?

Its more of a cycle than anything else if you ask me. Pretty soon, the LBO boom will be back and you will see a chunk of B school graduates from HSW entering IB M&A and PE shops.

Its seems to me more reflective of 'the current hotness" of the Tech/entrepreneurial fields rather than a permanent trend.

That said, "the truly entrepreneurial" will be go be entrepreneurs and do what they do best- Create, finance boom or not.

Does anyone know when the application for this year's admission will be released? I kept checking and it specifically says the page is for entry in 2011.

True.

Would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on whether the new "hotness" and the students' observation of change in the prevailing career goals on campus among the members of the new class reflects some sort of a deliberate change in the school's strategy.

I was waffling between R1 and R2 for Wharton, but I have some great ideas for the essays so I think I can knock those out pretty quick.

Plus, I'm one of those rare people that actually likes Philly as a city. :) In for R1 - I'm excited!

Hello, I just got my ding from the class of 2013 after being placed on the summer waitlist since round 2. Do you have any suggestions for a re-applicant? Also, does anyone know the recommender questions yet?

I'm aiming to get a R1 application this year.

Do you have any suggestions for a re-applicant?
Do a SWAT analysis of your application, regroup and redefine your strategy.

So the first question to answer is "What was your strategy last time?"
Second question would be "What was wrong with it?"
