I received it at about 10:18 AM this morning and also received an invite to a previous chat on the graduate leadership program on 10/6.

I wouldn't read too much into an email like that...though you can enjoy speculating on that sort of stuff if you enjoy it. If five boxes show up on your myWharton page on the day admit decisions go out on the other hand.....

Oh I don't think I got the 10/6 chat email either. I've gotten other emails from them though over the past months (about a tech/media panel, Wharton Women in Business, and a few admissions-related emails). Weird.

I can already tell this is going to be a stressful next few weeks...haha

I remember reading that this year wharton is going to start testing a new interview method. Something where applicants are in some sort of round table discussion with other applicants and they have admissions officers either moderating or observing candidates. If I recall correctly, this is an on campus thing, and it is not supposed to have an effect on your chances of admission this year, as they are just testing it. I'm assuming that if you're invited to do this test, that you will also have a regular interview just like everyone else that is being interviewed.

I received that mail too. However, look at the bottom of that mail :

'You are receiving these emails because you recently requested information. If you no longer wish to receive emails from Wharton's MBA Office of Admissions, click here.'

Obviously mass mail. So all those who haven't received were smart enough to opt out of such mails.

I didn't get that email either...let the speculation begin!

Just to squash any hope (sorry) that this email might mean you have advanced in the application process: I did not apply to Wharton, in fact, I haven't even created an account on Wharton's application. You're probably the victim of a mass email. Either that or Wharton wants me so bad that they've invited me to interview before I've even applied.

I feel the first question I'm gonna ask during the chat will be 'am I selected for the interview?' :-)!!

I submitted my application in R1 as well, a little ahead of the deadline (2-3 days, maybe). Just driving myself a little crazy reading and re-reading the posts here!

All the best to everyone- looking forward to some good news in a few days =D

For those of you who didn't receive a chat invitiation, I wouldn't worry. Looks like the chat is part of Wharton's regular Wednesday night series: https://engage.wharton.upenn.edu/MBA/chat.aspx

You have to sign up to receive chats separately than you do for other mailings, which is probably why some people have received notification and others have not.

In any case, good luck to all Thursday!

I think most applicants get informed on the first day interviews go out. Its just like HBS were the highest density of invitations is on the first day and then it lowers drastically. They have to be politically correct about this process and say that there is no special formula or order to how invitations come out but its safe to assume that by the time the 27th comes, they will have read a great portion of applications and release invites for the ones they like, and on the days after that, they will finish readin the rest and invite as they are read, but the density of invitations per day goes down after first day dramatically.

This is good information - fsaq: where did you get this from? Or is this just common unspoken knowledge?

I don't know if you guys read this already -->

Quote:
Ankur Kumar, Admissions Director

Greetings Round 1 Candidates,

Hope you all are doing well and have been able to enjoy the last few weeks after submitting your applications. I’ve just returned from the final set of marketing events in SE Asia; it was a pleasure getting to meet many of you in person during my travels.

I wanted to give you a quick update on where we are in the cycle. The Admissions team and I have enjoyed reading your applications the last few weeks. It’s been incredibly interesting to learn more about each of you, and not surprisingly, you are an impressive group! Our candidates really wow us every year, and Round 1 is no exception so far.

I know you are all eagerly awaiting news on the next steps in our process. This week, on Thursday, October 27 we will begin to send out invitations to interview. Invitations will continue to go out up until Friday, November 11. During these weeks, you will receive an email that will provide next step information regarding your status with Wharton. If you are invited to interview, you will be given instructions on next steps to set up your interview. If you are not invited to interview, your process with Wharton is closed for this application cycle.

As a reminder, interview invitations are not released in any particular order, as we don’t read your applications in any particular order either. Please don’t stress if you don’t receive your invite until the last day; it indicates nothing about your candidacy.

Starting on Wednesday, November 2nd, we will begin hosting interviews on campus, which will continue until December 2nd. We will also host interviews in hub locations around the world between November 7th and November 30th. Both on-campus and hub location interviews are conducted and considered equally. On-campus interviews are a great opportunity to experience our community and culture first-hand and coordinate with our on-campus visit program. Your VIP page will provide further information as to where and when you can schedule an interview. Spaces are first come first serve and are limited in international locations, so be sure to schedule yourself as soon as possible.

Please see our website for a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare for this phase of the admissions process.

Wish you all the best with this next phase of the cycle.

Sincerely
