whether x+3 = 0 or -(x+3) = 0 ; isnt x always going to be '-3' only? So isnt the second statement sufficient on its own?

1) $$\sqrt{x^4}$$ = 9
$$x^\frac{4}{2}$$ = 9
$$x^2$$ = 9
x= +3 or -3
insuff

(2) The average (arithmetic mean) of x^2, 6x, and 3 is -2

$$\frac{x^2+6x+3}{3}$$= -2
$$x^2+6x+3$$ = -6
$$x^2+6x+9 = 0$$
(x+3) (x+3) = 0
