(2) \(x - y = x^2 - y^2\)

statement 1:
x - y = y- x
2x = 2y
x = y.
Sufficient.
Statement 2:
\(x - y = x^2 - y^2\). we don't know the value of x and y .Not sufficient.
The best answer is A.

Question: \(x - y = ?\)
Statement 1: \(x - y = y - x\)
i.e. x - y - y + x = 0
i.e. 2(x-y) = 0
i.e. x-y = 0
SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: \(x - y = x^2 - y^2\)
i.e. \(x - y = (x+y)*(x - y)\)
i.e. \((x+y)*(x - y) - (x-y) = 0\)
i.e. \((x-y)*[(x+y)-1] = 0\)
i.e. \((x-y)= 0\) OR \((x+y)-1 = 0\)
i.e. either \((x-y)= 0\) OR\((x+y) = 1\)
so we are not sure about the value of (x-y) hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option A
