Some lottery winners hate their lives because they were raised to be always striving for money as their life goal. Now that they have earned money, their life direction evaporates.

Being a lottery winner is not so great.

Sure you'll rather see your hard work pay off, but how much would you like to be paid for your hard work?

Somebody once said that he could never earn enough money, but I'm pretty sure that for the rest of the world - there would be some point of satisfaction where you stopped caring about how much you earned?

I always did the calculation that I would need $21MM in one lump sum.

I did the math and figured it out on the back of napkin a few years ago.

I value a stream of revenue more important than a lump sum... Inflation indexex 200k annually would be nice. :)

It depends on where you are in life I guess.

Right now, my next financial goal is to live in a place with a dishwasher ;) . Following that is to be able to be debt free before or very near graduation.

I guess for me, "enough," would be I could afford a comfortable, standard 3-2-2 house in a decent neighborhood, two reliable cars (make and model don't mater to me. I actually like Kia.), enough food to eat, and a small amount of entertainment. I actually laugh at those people who buy the big, expensive houses and then don't have much time to spend in them.

i've actually discussed this with my friends and I think 10 million is enough.

with the amount given, I would actually invest a percentage, help out family, and buy myself some stuff. None of the stuff that I was planning on buying was luxurious (although the cars might be)

Here's an interesting segment on certain lottery winners that met unfortunate fates:

For me, I'd still take as much as I can get.

I want to buy the Mets and be their GM. I guess, a few nice cars, a house or two, a private plane and a stable of horses would be nice. So... $2.5 Billion should just about cover it (figure the mets will cost more when I can afford them - maybe they'll win a few more games and they'll pay off the stadium). After that, I guess the rest goes to charities.

Truth is, it's not so much the money that drives me, it's all the fun things you can do with the money.

I figure I'll be happy with US$10 million cash (excluding a house and maybe 2 cars). Don't think I'll need more than that to have a decent life.

Howabout you? How much would you say is enough to make you happy and satisfied?

Well, it really depends what your perception of your needs is, and what do you consider a decent life to be.
About being happy and satisfied, you don't really need money for that. There's plenty of happy people that are poor, and really poor.

I think the old concept of being content with whatever you have is quite powerful and wise.
Maybe you will find yourself with 10M and suddenly realize that is not enough. Then what? Keep running like those little mice spinning the wheel, until you die? You can't call that life. I've seen many ambitious people get to the level they first were dreaming about, and saying that now they want more. And then more, and more, and more. You really need to put the focus on other things. Money by itself will not bring you happiness and satisfaction.

this is an interesting topic! i never thought about how much money is enough for me! but the people i know use money/salary to measure a person's accomplishments--the more a person earns, the more that person accomplished!!
