C. If both x and y are integers then 5^3*2^4 = 2000. Hence, sufficient.

factor 2000 into primes
$$2000 = 2^4 * 5^3$$

HOWEVER,
$$2000 = -2^4 * 5^3$$

neihter of hte statements tell whether x = 2 or -2

therefore E
