I've had the fortune of receiving an interview invite.

I live on the West Coast, but visited the campus in the Fall. Any drawbacks to asking for an alumni interview in my area? I'm hesitant to fly out East in the middle of winter and potentially jeopardize work obligations.

That said, if it is in my best interest admissions-wise to make the effort again, I will.

Thanks for the input.
I'd say if you've already visited, and can prove to them that Yale is a top choice for you, you're good to go with an alumni interview. I did that.

The admin people told me it doesn't make any difference whatsoever.

what if I am a Yale undergrad alum? then it shouldn't really matter (if I don't go back to New Haven) right since I'm already extremely familiar with the school and the area...

Same page. I thought I had a good chance of at least an interview invite... I received one from Columbia in R1 and have been promoted since then.

Realistically, when should we actually start getting nervous?

Guys,

Chill.

There have been 5 invites only. That's not a lot. Although I think what's making us uncomfortable is the fact the the invites came way too soon.

I think we have a good month ahead until we deserve to get worried.

But who am I..im not a Yale adcom.

Posted from my mobile device

I agree, I don't think anyone should be remotely worried at this point. They hadn't even started to review my app by Thursday because I had to tell them that some of my transfer credits were listed on my degree granting institution transcript. They still haven't updated it.

Did you apply thru the Consortium? R2?

I was wondering whether they have started inviting applicants to interview.

Guys I think most people with Invites submitted their app before the deadline. i am sure admissions took apps ready when the came back after the new year and started reviewing them. I would not worry until about mid fed about not getting invites.

Though I probably am being overly sensitive because of how much I want to go to SOM, I would agree that there is no true reason to be worried until the 2nd week of Feb. I think any invites that go out around the end of the first week of Feb or later will be "dead meat" candidates, that are only invited so Yale meets that certain % of applicants invited to interview.

Yes, I did.

In response to other posts: The adcoms insist that applications are reviewed in random order and that invites can come at any time - I would take them at their word and not read into the timing of it.

You can ask for an interview with an alumni around your area if you have a valid reason (i.e. - work obligation, etc). It's not going to hurt you and YSOM will accommodate accordingly. (And no, it won't hurt your chances)

hi guys. does anyone know what the application status changes to if you're rejected? Does it change at all? Will it forever show received until you slowly give up hope, with your dreams crushed? I was a very long shot for Yale anyway, and got into another school, so I pretty much gave up hope the moment I submitted it. If an interview materializes, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Yep, they say not to worry about the site saying items are missing. They may have received them but simply not updated the indicators on the applicant's page.
