Waitlisted without an interview. Didn't know that was an option at all. Probably should've given them a visit when I was up at Tuck. Love the program on paper, but haven't been to the SOM part of Yale.

Same here...seems strange but it was def a pleasant surprise to me...it's encouraging to hear that the waitlist does see at least some movement, best of luck to waitlisters and congrats to all accepted! Maybe I'll start a waitlist forum just to keep tabs on any movement?

heartiest congratulations to all those who made it. really glad to see familiar names on the accepted list.
And I'm sure a lot of waitlisted candidates will go through as well. design a solid WL strategy and hold on!

to those who were dinged:
Lets celebrate the 'worthless-ness' with some beer. I'm sure something good is in store.

Big congrats with the scholarship, too. And congrats all around to the admits.

Congrats to everyone who received good news today. I just wanted to say there is hope for those who were wait listed. I was WL this time last year and am currently preparing for my investor final tomorrow at Yale. I remember searching for any indication of statistics of people being picked up off the wait list. They don't release the numbers but people are accepted off the list every year. I actually received an acceptance on January 23rd. So it may be shorter than you think, and it is definitely worth the wait!

Thanks for the good news! Did you give them any updates or anything or was it just too quick of a turnaround?

Certainly don't know if that's a good thing or bad think (wl w/o interview). They liked us enough to keep us around sans interview, but not enough to interview us from the get go. A WL thread would be solid, if for the very least, we could plot attacks on those vile R2 and R3 candidates! :P

Dbalks started the Yale Waitlist thread: calling-all-yale-som-2013-waitlisted-applicants-144114.html
Post in that thread to add yourself to the rollcall.
Good luck everyone! Hopefully once March 1 rolls around, there will be some movement.

I personally think that earlier is better, but "when you're ready" is best.

Also, you might want to consider the fact that Yale SOM would have moved to the newer (and bigger) building come 2014, which means they probably have more seats to fill.

Did anyone that was accepted receive an email? I was accepted and can view the congratulatory letter via the website but never received an email from Yale...

I received an email that said something like your 'application status has been updated, click here to view it for more details,' which got me to the login page to view the letter and website.

I received the status update email as well as an email from adcom (I missed the call so they sent a follow-up email). I also received a congratulatory email from my interviewer, which I thought was a nice touch.

Hey guys, Admits and Prospectives in the Boston area are invited to come to Cambridge Brewing Company at 8pm this Tursday, 12/20 for a very casual get-together organized by some first-year SOMers home for the holidays. Feel free to PM me for more details.

Here's Yale's response to being waitlisted without an interview:

I haven’t been interviewed yet. Is that unusual?

Since we have limited interview appointment availability, it is not uncommon to be placed on the wait list before being interviewed. We will contact you if we feel an interview is necessary.

Before I got what seemed to be a system generated email which contained a link to my admissions decision, I first got a personal email from one of their associate directors, which I believe took the place of a congratulatory call.

I also got a call from a second year student just now, which I missed, so they sent me an email again.

I don't think you should worry about anything. As long as you're accepted, then you're accepted. Congrats! :)

It was the other way around for me. I almost immediately sent a "thank you" email to my interviewer after getting accepted. Haha! I assumed he had some part in my acceptance so I wanted him to know I appreciated what he did.
